Introduction

The West tends to focus on fitness as a way to maintain a healthy lifestyle (staying fit). This includes exercising and eating right. However, a large part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is investing in social responsibility. For example, the West doesn’t seem to get it that yoga and meditation are somewhat anti-Western activities. Traditional Chinese culture sees social responsibility as very important. They view it as one of the most fundamental aspects of life. They put a high value on filial piety.

(Note: Filial piety is regarded as a key virtue in China and other East Asian cultures. It is the focus of numerous legends). On the other hand, India has its own set of beliefs that don’t involve health being the most important factor in life. There are several traditions that Indians follow, including things like the sacred cow. The cow is holy because it is a symbol of prosperity and wealth.

India Vs West:

In India, people are more likely to remain fit as they get older. There is a sense of community in Indian culture. This means that older people are taken care of by their children and grandchildren.

The West on the other hand has a more individualistic culture, which means that people feel less pressure to stay fit as they get older because they don’t have a support system in place.

The Western culture is more focused on external appearance and is more likely to be health-conscious or thin. The Western culture is more likely to place a premium on success, education, and material possessions. The Eastern culture places a premium on ancestral ties and social harmony. The East culture focuses on inner virtues; like wisdom and family.  The Indian culture is more focused on inner well-being and happiness, which means that they are less likely to care about how they look or how much weight they are gaining or losing.

Statistics:

Old age in the Western world is characteristic by a lack of mobility. While in India, old age is not just about staying fit but also about living longer.  In India, people are encouraged to stay active even when they are older. They live a more holistic lifestyle and they have a different mindset when it comes to aging.

Staying fit

The World Health Organization estimates that the number of Indians over 60 years old will increase to about 300 million by 2050.

Benefits:

Let us all learn about the benefits of being active and living a healthy lifestyle as we get oldern.

The West and India have different lifestyles, which have led to different health outcomes. For example, Indians are more likely to develop diabetes than Westerners because they are more sedentary.  India’s lethargic lifestyle is mainly due to the country’s climate, which doesn’t require much movement in order to stay cool or warm. In contrast, Westerners typically live in climates where they’re always moving around in order to stay comfortable.

Indian people also eat less protein than Westerners and don’t exercise as often as them either, which has led some researchers to believe that India’s aging population could be at risk for age

Staying fit

Purpose driven lifestyle:

Purpose driven lifestyle is about making choices that are aligned with your values, beliefs, and passions. It means living in a way that makes you happy. Living authentically means being true to who you are at your core and living according to your values. Purpose driven lifestyle is all about being true to yourself so that you can live an authentic life.

The mental & physical benefits of traveling are well known. The individuals who travel for well being rewards, mental stability and peace, healthy regular exercise and nature are the ones who are living longer lives.

The mindset of living a longer life is becoming more and more popular in the Western world. People are willing to travel to find peace, mental stability, and a healthy lifestyle (staying fit). The rewards of these trips are not only physical health but also mental health.

Staying Fit:

We have all heard that we should exercise to stay healthy and live longer. But seriously, what does it mean to be active? Well, it means things like walking, gardening, and doing other activities that give your body a good work-out. It is also important to eat well and enjoy the fresh air. If you are not sure how to start an active lifestyle, there are many resources available online – from apps to books – that can help you find the best ways for you.

Conclusion:

We should all do our best to stay active and healthy as we grow older.  Purpose driven lifestyle – a new approach to life focused on achieving the highest level of satisfaction and fulfillment. It’s not about pursuing money or fame; it’s all about following your passion. The idea of a purpose driven lifestyle comes from the belief that by focusing on what you love and what you are passionate about, you will be happier and more fulfilled in life. Both Indian and Western styles are appropriate . There is much to learn from both west & east civilizations.

Introduction: How We’ve Become Addicted to Social Media and Why It’s Bad For Us:

Social media has allowed us to connect with people we never would have before. But it also has the power to create FOMO – Fear of Missing Out.

The fear of missing out is a modern-day epidemic, and it’s not just affecting our kids. It can be hard to resist the pressure when all your friends are posting about their amazing vacations on social media, or when you see influencers that you follow posting about their perfect lives.

The fear of missing out, or FOMO, is a common feeling in our society. We are constantly comparing our lives with others and it can cause anxiety or depression. But we have to resist this false comparison and be true to ourselves. We need to take the time and understand what we want, not what our friends want or what the influencers FOLLOW.

There are many ways to combat FOMO. One way is to reject fear and find joy by living in the moment. Another way is to resist false comparisons by remembering that everyone has their own unique journey and problems.

Jomo

FOMO is the fear of missing out: JOMO is the joy of missing out

FOMO is a feeling of discomfort or loss resulting from knowing what one’s friends are doing and an obsession that those friends are having more fun than oneself. It is not a new phenomenon, but the proliferation of social media has amplified it.

Social media platforms have taken over our lives and with every post, we see on Facebook or Instagram, we feel like we’re missing out. But does social media really create FOMO?

Some psychologists say yes, but in reality, there is no such thing as FOMO because it’s not possible to know what your friend is doing at all times. However, there are ways to resist the temptation of false comparisons and find joy in your own life without worrying about what others are doing.

The term FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) is not new. It has been around for a while and it is a common phenomenon. But with the way that social media has evolved, people are now more susceptible to FOMO than ever before.

In order to resist these feelings, one must reject fear and find joy in what they do have instead of focusing on what they don’t have.

Why You Should EMBRACE the Self-Care Trend. The JOMO life.

There are many ways to combat FOMO. One way is to reject fear and find joy by living in the moment. Another way is to resist false comparisons by remembering that everyone has their own unique journey and problems.

The term JOMO is a portmanteau of the words “joy” and “fear”.

JOMO is about embracing the idea that life is not about maximizing one’s pleasure, but rather minimizing one’s pain. It promotes the idea of taking a break from your busy life and living in the moment.

Here are some best value destinations for your next vacation:

There are many benefits to traveling solo, but one of the most important is that it encourages spontaneity. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned from traveling solo, it’s that there is a lot more to life than work and technology. It’s important to take time for yourself and enjoy the little things in life, like reading or streaming your favorite TV show on Netflix.

Introduction

Hiking &/ Trekking is a fun and soothing outdoor activity. Where do people go for a long walk? Hiking trails, pathways, modest inclines, natural settings, and, of course, the mountains. Hiking is primarily for the purpose of enjoying nature, and there is no set distance to hike.

Sometimes people use the phrases “hiking” and “trekking” interchangeably. Hiking is a long walk that you can do with or without company. Trekking, on the other hand, is difficult to undertake on a mountainside walk. Hiking has greatly increased in recent years.

It has numerous health benefits and requires minimal physical effort. Hiking clubs and organisations are the primary organisers of hikes in the countryside and mountains.

Best places or destinations for Hiking

Nearby parks, which usually have a lot of trees and create a natural view, are the best place for ordinary people to go trekking, and interested people can visit nearby national parks.

National parks are often built on acres of land with a variety of recreational activities and walking paths, allowing hikers to spend the full day outside.

The types of Hiking

Hiking is more than just a walk; it includes a variety of activities that appeal to a wide range of people.

There are day hikes, night hikes, weekend hikes, solo hikes, group hikes, rain hikes, and so on.

Hiking

Hiking and its health benefits

Hiking is a great way to go outside, get some exercise, and see new places. It also turns out to be quite good for your health. Because of its many physical and mental health benefits, hiking is one of the best workouts for both your body and mind.

In comparison to other sports, it is also quite easy to participate in. Hikers of all ages and abilities will be able to find a hike that fits their needs. Hiking has grown in popularity as a stress-relieving activity for people all around the world.

You’ve probably already experienced some of the benefits of hiking, whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just getting started. Many individuals practiced hiking to cope with the uncertainty and instability brought on by global famine, natural disasters, and conflict.

Hiking benefits on physical health

Hiking, as demonstrated in the list below, is a terrific method to get in shape naturally.

  1. It helps to reduce heart disease.
  2. Staying active can help you manage your stress.
  3. Helps to improve sugar levels and blood pressure.
  4. Increase the strength and density of your bones.
  5. It contributes to weight loss.
  6. It helps in a pleasant night’s sleep.
  7. Helps to keep depression at bay.
  8. Hiking can aid in the prevention of disease and the recovery of muscle discomfort.

Better your heart’s health

Hiking paths might feature high inclines, which are beneficial to your heart. You can obtain the heart related health benefits of hiking even if you’re not on a trail with a lot of elevation increase. Hiking is an aerobic activity that involves activities that raise your heart and respiratory rates as you work to keep your body hydrated.

Hiking and other aerobic exercises boost blood flow to the small veins that go through your heart and can become blocked over time. This improved blood flow can reduce your risk of heart disease and improve your cholesterol and blood pressure.

While hiking will not raise your heart rate as quickly as jogging, cycling, or other high-intensity sports, it will certainly get your blood pumping. According to experts, its similar to 30 minutes of cardio a day which could provide you with these advantages. It also provides us a reason to continue going for weekend walks.

Hikking

Strengthen bones and muscles

Hiking is a fantastic way to keep your muscles and bones in good shape. You’ll employ different muscle groups throughout the day because each hiking trail demands you to adapt to different terrain and slope angles.

Each journey confronts your body with a new challenge, whether it’s a moderate ascent, a hard ascent, sloping hills, or anything in between. Downhill zones strengthen your knees and hip flexors, while incline zones work your quads, hook, glutes, and calves.

The increased weight of a backpack helps to strengthen your shoulders, arms, and back. It also strengthens your core, which is a set of muscles that help to keep your torso in place. It’s a complete body workout. Hikes are a great way to develop your bones and muscles at the same time.

Weight-bearing workouts that force you to fight gravity, according to the National Institute of Health, are good for bone health. Although bone, like muscle, is a living structure that improves with activity, hiking, walking, and cycling can help boost bone density, strength, and overall bone mass.

Better balancing

Hiking is a great approach to improve your balance if you’ve ever desired to. It develops general strength and stability by requiring the use of various muscle groups. Hiking, in particular, stimulates and strengthens your hips and core muscles, which help you stay balanced on rough terrain.

However, not every hiking trail will put your balance to the test. Try exploring trails with higher grades or more uneven terrain characteristics like roots and stones as your hiking skills improve. Improving your balance can make your life more enjoyable and meaningful.

It becomes increasingly important as you get older since strong balance helps to lower the risk of harm from falls. Walking around the neighbourhood or using the treadmill are both excellent ways to workout. Go on a Sikkim GoechaLa trek if you want to enhance your balance.

Hiking

Get a better night’s sleep

Do you have a strong desire to get a good night’s sleep? It’s conceivable you’ll need to take some time off. Hiking and trekking, like other forms of exercise, has been shown to improve sleep quality as per  studies. It’s a full-body workout that necessitates physical stamina, but it might also be a wonderful mental challenge.

Mental workouts that require a lot of mental fortitude include studying maps, navigating pathways, and pushing through a difficult climb. All of our mental and physical exertion causes our minds and bodies to relax. As a result, unwind with a restful night’s sleep at the end of the day.

There is a lot of evidence to support the link between hiking and improved sleep. Exercise aids the production of important sleep chemicals such as melatonin. The bright light of the early sun also aids our circadian cycles. So now we have yet another motivation to get out of bed in the morning and go for a hike.

Enhance your stamina

Hiking and trekking is a fantastic technique to build endurance, and can range from two-mile loops to 50-mile circuits. It is a low-intensity activity when compared to other aerobic workouts such as running, cycling, and so on.

The majority of hikes will keep your heart rate in zone 2. This is where you can keep moving while talking to a friend. The workout isn’t easy, but it’s not difficult either. It also takes very little time. When you keep your heart rate in the zone 2 range for an extended period of time, your body quickly establishes an aerobic base and increases your stamina.

Beginners should start with shorter, simpler hikes to build up their muscle and stamina. Backpacking loops can be an effective strategy to accumulate kilometres over several days for more rustic hikers seeking a challenge.

Benefits of hiking for mental health

Breakdown of stress and anxiety

Hiking can be incredibly good to your mental health, in addition to its numerous physical benefits. It lets you reconnect with nature and your body, making it a useful tool for dealing with the stresses of modern life.

Hiking, like many other forms of exercise, causes the body to release endorphins, or “feel-good hormones.” Because they make you feel good and allow you to unwind. We are all aware, however, of the harmful consequences of stress on the body.

Not only can stress make you feel stuck, but it can also build up in your body, leading to increased anxiety and despair. Fortunately, exercise is a wonderful stress reliever. Rumination, or the overplaying of thoughts and fears, can be reduced by going for a walk in the woods.

Spending time outdoors, according to the research, reduces activity in the brain region linked to the onset of mental illness. Hiking improves sun exposure, which provides a variety of health benefits, including vitamin D generation. As a result, it is essential for immune function, bone health, and mood management.

Improve your nature connection

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to interact with nature while hiking and trekking. You have the ability to become entirely immersed in your surroundings. Because you’re not blasting across the countryside like you would when running or bicycling.

You engage all of your senses when you walk outside and take in the sights, sounds, fragrances, feelings, and sometimes even tastes of the world around you. As you unplug from the rush and bustle of everyday life to (literally) pause and smell the flowers, you’ll reap a slew of advantages from this full-body experience.

There are also so many varied trekking scenery options that you will never get bored. In nature, there’s always something new to view. It can also help people who are suffering from climate anxiety, which manifests as fury, dread, and insecurity. However note that some individuals can be suffering as a result of our current climate catastrophe.

Hiking in the woods allows you to slow down and become more in sync with nature’s rhythms, which can help you relax. Spending more time in nature may increase people’s motivation to join in conservation efforts. It benefits both humans and the environment in this way, making it a win-win situation.

Boost your self-confidence

Hiking and trekking can be a great way to reconnect with yourself while also strengthening your bonds with others. We’ve all had those moments when we doubted our own talents. It can help you change your mindset and increase your self-esteem. As a result, you’ll be able to prove to yourself that you’re capable of performing difficult tasks.

Taking on new responsibilities is one of the most effective methods to enhance self-confidence and emotions of self-worth. Trekking is an excellent approach to bolster your newfound self-assurance. As a result, each path will present you with a different set of challenges to complete.

Hiking

Enhance your mental abilities

Any form of exercise is beneficial to our mental health, but it also pushes us to our physical and mental limits. When you’re out on the trek trail, you need to be aware of your surroundings at all times. Any potential threats, route markings, or wild animals that may come into contact with you, must be taken into account.

Spatial memory and navigation are thought to be aided by the hippocampus and retrosplenial cortex. They are engaged as a result of this mental awareness. It maintains mental sharpness by stimulating various sections of the brain and building new connections.

Regular cardiovascular exercise, such as hiking and trekking, has been linked to a variety of cognitive benefits. There are, however, several advantages, like increased memory, cognition, creativity, and a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease, to mention a few.

Things to keep in mind before starting the hiking

Before starting the hike/trek, one should be physically and mentally prepared to prevent danger. Make a plan for where you want to begin and end your hike/trek.

When trekking, it’s generally a good idea to start small and gradually increase your distance. To make your journey more fun, keep vital stuff like a bag, drink, shoes, and hiking partners in mind. You can catch the incredible moments if you have a camera with you.

Another advantage of hiking could be the revitalising and stress-relieving qualities of being in nature. Several studies have indicated that spending time in green surroundings such as natural parks, forests, and city parks can help people relax.

According to a growing body of research and data, stress is connected to high blood pressure and an elevated risk of heart disease. Anything you can do to relieve stress will almost certainly be useful.

A Lifestyle Change to Living a Minimalist Life:

Many people nowadays are living a more minimalist lifestyle. They believe that we should only spend on what we need. This way, they can save up and have more time to do what they want to do.

Apart from the financial reasons, there are many other benefits of going on a minimalist lifestyle. You will be able to focus on what’s important in life and live a life of less stress and worry. You will also be able to get rid of all the clutter in your home which will make you feel more refreshed and relaxed when you come home at the end of the day.

The decision to go on a minimalist lifestyle is not an easy one but it is definitely worth it in the long run! 2. Buy LessBuying less doesn’t just mean going on a minimalist lifestyle, it also includes only buying what you need and not going for the latest trendy items. If you want to buy things that may make your life easier, but aren’t necessary, then consider renting instead of buying. This way you can always start over if needed without having to spend too much.

Why A Minimalist Lifestyle is a Key to a Fulfilling Life:

If you are a person who likes to go on adventures and explore the world, then you should consider going on a trek. In trekking, you carry your own backpack. This has everything that you need for your trip. It’s a minimalistic lifestyle that will help you experience nature in all its glory. If you want to go on a trek, the first important thing to remember is that you must be physically fit. If you aren’t, it’s best to start with some low-impact trekking, such as walking or jogging. The two main types of treks are long-distance and short. This decision will be one of the best decisions that you ever make in your life because it brings out the adventurer in you and teaches you to be adaptable and frugal.

The Benefits of Living a Minimalist Lifestyle from A Psychologist’s Perspective:

Trekking is a great way to disconnect from the modern world. We can’t access Wi-Fi or make phone calls, so the only thing we can do is enjoy the scenery and reflect on life. Trekking forces us to be more self-sufficient and self-reliant.

lifestyle

Trekking is a popular pastime for many people. Trekkers take to the hills and mountains with nothing but their own physical strength and that of their guide. The trekker’s only contact with the outside world will be at the end of each day when they return to their lodge. Staff will look after them here, feeding and resting them before they continue their journey the next day.

I highly recommend it for those of you who need an escape from your day-to-day lives.

The Unique Experiences You Get from iLoveNorthEastIndia that Won’t Happen Anywhere Else:

Trekking is not just a physical experience, it is also an emotional one. Remote mountainous trekking gives you the opportunity to get away from your daily life and be in a place where you can think and reflect on your life.

lifestyle

Trekking is not just a physical experience, it is also an emotional one. Himalayan Trekking gives you the opportunity to get away from your daily life. You will be in a place where you can think and reflect on your life and responsibilities. Generations of family traditions has passed on trekking to us. Our parents and grandparents did it with us, and now we are passing it to our children. We hope that they will carry on the tradition as well, however, if they have other interests than trekking we want them to find something else to do.

Trekking provides you with an opportunity to live simply. A life without distractions or luxuries that we often take for granted in our day-to-day lives. It forces us to make decisions based on what we need rather than what we want. This helps us develop a more realistic perspective on our personal lives. For example, if we decide to save for our retirement. It forces us to rethink how much we are spending on unnecessary things that aren’t vital for survival (e.g., buying trendy clothes). It provides a framework for decision-making in the future – e.g., knowing that you have to carry your backpack“

In Conclusion:

It is not about the destination, but about the journey.

How can you reduce your carbon footprint while travelling across Northeast India?

A brief overview of northeast India:

Northeast India consists of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.

Wildlife, natural beauty, festivals, and a vibrant culture are among its most well-known features. It has a rich culture that exhibits unity in diversity as a result of the influence of numerous tribes.

As you travel around the northeast, you will be astounded by the residents’ kindness and gentleness. Here, people are quite helpful and friendly. It is something you will encounter while travelling.

Humanity is a fascinating species by nature. We have an insatiable desire to learn about new things and locations, which is why we travel.

Traveling is a relaxing and enjoyable activity that lifts our spirits. This gives us the energy to get back to our everyday routines.

However, as a result of recent advancements and our consumer culture, travel has resulted in pollution & carbon footprint.

Carbon footPrint

What does it take to provide a carbon footprint? And what impact does it have on the environment?

The carbon footprint is the entire amount of greenhouse gases produced by our actions. Greenhouse gases lead to global warming and are responsible for rising temperatures and glacier melting.

Our acts while travelling also contributes to global warming by leaving a carbon footprint.

Now the question is: how can we lessen our carbon footprint if we can’t stop it?

We are not suggesting that you quit travelling or anything like that since it will not work.

Here’s what you can do:

We leave a significant carbon footprint when we travel. Some ideas for reducing your carbon footprint or things we can do to reduce our carbon footprint while traveling:

1. Break up your travel:

When compared to trains and buses, air travel has a higher carbon footprint. You can pay for your carbon footprint and offset it by participating in environmentally friendly activities.

Some cool websites calculate your carbon footprints based on your mode of transportation and distance travelled. Websites like https://co2.myclimate.org/de/offset_further_emissions and https://www.nature.org/en-us/ can help you figure out how much carbon you’re emitting.

Because landing and take-off burn more fuel, always take a direct trip rather than a connecting flight.

If trains and buses are available, take them instead of flying.

carbon footprint
2. Eat local:

Vegetarian food options are abound in the northeast, while non-vegetarian options are also available depending on your preferences.

In Northeast India, you’ll find familiar foods like rice, curries, and daal. Smoked meats are also available. There are numerous foods to choose from that will pique your attention. One can avoid red meat.

Try Khar, Pitha, Galho and Kelli chana if you’re a vegetarian. Opt for Smoked Pork, Tenga fish, and Jadon if you’re a non-vegetarian. Consume seasonal and regional foods.

You can also taste millet-based Tongba and aphung, as well as a range of other drinks.

I recommend that you buy your foodstuffs from local stores rather than chain restaurants. This helps local businesses to develop. It lessens the carbon impact when we purchase something that must be shipped.

The same is true for hotels. We would recommend staying in a local guesthouse or a homestay over a chain hotel. This will help to boost the local economy and market.

Additionally, rather than taking a private cab, take a shared cab. Avoid cabs, if destination is within walking distance or can be reached by foot.

3. Save energy:

Avoid too much shampoo, towels, and clothes because they’ll end up in the laundry, so keep it simple. Remember to switch off the lights when you’re not using them or when you leave the house.

Staying in eco-friendly hotels and resorts is a good idea.

Use cycles for local travel.

If it’s not winter, use cold water for your refreshing & bathing needs.

4. Put the environment ahead of convenience:

Instead of using a disposable bottle, use a refillable one. If you don’t want to use a packed water bottle, you can fill it with any water filter.

Other things you can help are:

  • Avoid Disposable cutlery
  • Purchace local Souvenirs
  • Support local businesses
  • Avoid littering

I hope this clarifies the matter for you. If we follow these instructions carefully, we will undoubtedly reduce our carbon footprint. This is critical if we are to protect our world.

NorthEast India has evolved as one of the strongest bearers of what authentic ‘Indianness’ looks like. Despite isolated from the ‘mainland’ history of Indian civilization. Devoid of heavy alien interference, the societal practices of the Northeast still have historical moorings. The traditional and the modern amalgamate together to form a concoction that we see as the Northeastern part of India. Thus, as an NRI, it is imperative that you immediately place the region on your travel bucket list. If you want to immerse yourself in the authenticity of Indian culture and customs and have an authentic one-of-a-kind experience.  Then the Northeast should be your first destination of calling. Therefore, without further ado, let us look at the top reasons NorthEastIndia stands tall as the epicenter of Indian authenticity.

THE UNSEEN SIDE OF NORTHEAST INDIA – TRADITIONAL CULTURE AND PRACTISES

Along with beautiful scenery, there is delicious food, joyful festivals, and lovely people. Deep connections to the past is one feature that sets NorthEast India apart from the rest of the country. The region’s affinity to age-old practices and customs stands strong and provides it with a unique essence and feel.

1. Self-sustainable Agriculture:

Indigenous Technical Knowledge is an accumulation of inherited information of farmers in terms of land, water, trees, vegetation, animals, etc. It includes solutions to various issues through sound and meaningful decision-making and implementation through efficient allocation of resources. NE India is a hub of Indigenous Technical and Traditional Knowledge. The knowhow is used for weather forecast, seed germination, soil fertility management, water harvesting, pest management, controlling diseases of flora, fauna, and so forth.

There is a myriad of indigenous cultivation practices still very much in vogue in the region.

Example:

  • Wetland rice production (Apatani tribe of Arunachal Pradesh),
  • Zabo system of farming and Alder agriculture (Nagaland),
  • organic farming (Sikkim), traditional mixed cropping systems,

etc.

Interested in environmentally sustainable agriculture practises? If so, Northeast India is a must-see.

2. Medicinal Herbs:

Being termed as one of the richest biodiversity hotspots on the planet, it is unsurprising that Northeast India is the quintessential hub of medicinal plants. Northeast India uses at least 65 plants belonging to 38 families to treat malaria.

Plant leaf, root, bark, fruits, the entire plant is used for making herbal cocktails. Traditional medical practices have been an integral part of Northeastern people.

Attention has now switched to North East India’s herbal and medicinal mixtures. Due to a growing awareness of the relevance of medicinal plants and traditional healing systems.

There has been an increasing awareness of the importance of medicinal plants and traditional treatment practises in recent years. The focus has now shifted to the herbal and medicinal mixes of North East India.

Few medicinal plants found in the region are: Mimosa pudica, Catharanthus roseus, Centella Asiatica, Tagetes erecta, and likewise. They are excellent sources of secondary metabolites like alkaloids, flavonoids, etc.

Medicinal plants play a crucial role in treating various diseases and have anti-inflammatory, anti-cancer, anti-fungal, and anti-bacterial properties. If you want to know more about India’s traditional healing practices and plants, then visit NE India at the earliest.

3. Unique and Harmonious Local Practices:

Northeast India is the nucleus of unbeknownst practices. Whenever you visit the Northeast, you will come across customs and events that are as fascinating as they are unique. The Jonbeel Mela held in the Morigaon district of Assam is a centuries exhibit based on the barter system. You will see buyers and sellers coming together to trade in various goods in the field. The zeal of Jonbeel Mela is commendable. Visit for a unique experience in the mela and return with a warehouse of knowledge. Know about the golden treasure of Assam – the Muga Silk, found only in Assam. The Mother’s Market of Manipur will also give you a taste of what a women-run market in Asia looks like.

4. The Matrilineal Society of Meghalaya:

The state of Meghalaya in India is one of the last sites of India where matrilineal succession exists. The Khasi tribe follows the custom wherein the girl child is the official inheritor of ancestral property of a family. The culture is truly unique and provides novel insights into India’s history and gender dynamics. NRIs, must visit to Northeast to see alternative gender traditions and ceremonies. The wedding ceremonies of Meghalaya are also a sight to behold, offering a fresh experience unlike any other.

5. The Joint Family Structure:

The joint family structure of Indian society is still very much intact in Northeast India. The hilly regions of the Northeast are still abounding with joint families that live harmoniously. Thus, you get an authentic taste of Indian kinship by visiting the Northeast.

6. Untouched Locations:

NorthEast India is unaffected by modernization effects. For example, Mawsynram in Meghalaya is the only place in the world that receives the highest amount of rainfall. Likewise, the Sualkuchi village of Assam is the largest producer of the finest silk in the world. In Mizoram, the Pukzing cave is carved using a single hairpin. Likewise, the Konyak tribe of Nagaland is one of the last remaining headhunting tribes around the globe. Therefore, it would not be erroneous to assert that new history meets contemporary times in Northeast India. So, if you’re an NRI looking for a glimpse of India’s past, head to North-East India. It will provide you a fascinating  knowledge of India.

North East India is a land where the pristine still peaks through. In a country otherwise inundated with chaos and clutter, the North East region acts as a rejuvenating abode where people can discover an India unlike anything else. Together deemed the Eight Sisters, North East India consists of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura.

Every state of the region has its unique history, culture, and language and is a rare repository of experiences for people. Connected to mainland India through the 22 kilometers wide and 60 kilometers long ‘Chicken’s Neck,’. North East remains comparatively isolated and untouched. Although, idealizing this isolation would be naïve and tone-deaf as the region suffers from several intrinsic issues, courtesy of it being geographically cut off from the central areas of India. However, there is no harm in romanticizing the region’s aesthetics and all the marvels that it has to offer to tourists and natives alike. Thus, if you are a travel enthusiast looking to explore the Northeast, we have compiled a list that will convince you to book your tickets at the earliest.

TOP NINE REASONS TO VISIT NORTH EAST INDIA THIS YEAR

1. Ethereal Natural Beauty:
