India and the West’s Differences in Staying Fit at Different Ages

Introduction

The West tends to focus on fitness as a way to maintain a healthy lifestyle (staying fit). This includes exercising and eating right. However, a large part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle is investing in social responsibility. For example, the West doesn’t seem to get it that yoga and meditation are somewhat anti-Western activities. Traditional Chinese culture sees social responsibility as very important. They view it as one of the most fundamental aspects of life. They put a high value on filial piety.

(Note: Filial piety is regarded as a key virtue in China and other East Asian cultures. It is the focus of numerous legends). On the other hand, India has its own set of beliefs that don’t involve health being the most important factor in life. There are several traditions that Indians follow, including things like the sacred cow. The cow is holy because it is a symbol of prosperity and wealth.

India Vs West:

In India, people are more likely to remain fit as they get older. There is a sense of community in Indian culture. This means that older people are taken care of by their children and grandchildren.

The West on the other hand has a more individualistic culture, which means that people feel less pressure to stay fit as they get older because they don’t have a support system in place.

The Western culture is more focused on external appearance and is more likely to be health-conscious or thin. The Western culture is more likely to place a premium on success, education, and material possessions. The Eastern culture places a premium on ancestral ties and social harmony. The East culture focuses on inner virtues; like wisdom and family.  The Indian culture is more focused on inner well-being and happiness, which means that they are less likely to care about how they look or how much weight they are gaining or losing.

Old age in the Western world is characteristic by a lack of mobility. While in India, old age is not just about staying fit but also about living longer.  In India, people are encouraged to stay active even when they are older. They live a more holistic lifestyle and they have a different mindset when it comes to aging.

The World Health Organization estimates that the number of Indians over 60 years old will increase to about 300 million by 2050.

The West and India have different lifestyles, which have led to different health outcomes. For example, Indians are more likely to develop diabetes than Westerners because they are more sedentary.  India’s lethargic lifestyle is mainly due to the country’s climate, which doesn’t require much movement in order to stay cool or warm. In contrast, Westerners typically live in climates where they’re always moving around in order to stay comfortable.

Indian people also eat less protein than Westerners and don’t exercise as often as them either, which has led some researchers to believe that India’s aging population could be at risk for age
